Insuring We Have Inclusivity & Diversity in Our Workforce | LGBTQ+

The workplace is changing, and your business needs to change with it or it will get left behind. One of the changes you need to prepare for is the need for a more progressive and diverse workplace. As we said on Medium, “Some people shy away from the word diversity, thinking about it as a term for tokenism or simply a buzzword. However, if you want to be successful in 2020 and beyond, your organization needs to be socially responsible and socially conscious.”

One area you can start improving today is the way your company addresses gender, pronouns, and inclusion of all identities.

Here Are a Few Statistics for You to Consider:

Gen Z already makes up 24% of the workforce, and make up 24.3% of the U.S population. 77% of Gen Z say a company’s diversity would be a deciding factor in taking a job. Forbes

50% of non-LGBTQ+ people reported no openly LGBTQ+ people in their workplace. However, 46% of LGBTQ+ workers reported they remained closeted at work. HRC

Gen Z is by far the most likely to say that when a form or online profile asks about a person’s gender it should include options other than “man” and “woman.” About six-in-ten Gen Zers (59%) say forms or online profiles should include additional gender options, compared with half of Millennials, about four-in-ten Gen Xers and Boomers (40% and 37%, respectively) and roughly a third of those in the Silent Generation (32%). PEW Research Center

86% of small business owners who have adopted nondiscrimination policies report that the policies cost them “nothing or next to nothing.” Inc

That last statistic is crucial for your business; changing the way you communicate and operate to be more inclusive will cost you nothing, while the returns in engagement, social proof, and happiness of your team will soar. Using inclusive language and the right pronouns for the right people while supporting your LGBTQ+ employees and job candidates will only improve your business operations.

What Is TTI Success Insights Doing to Become More Inclusive?

Gender_LP_Graphic1TTI SI is no exception to this! After internal research as well as national and international requests, we are launching a gender neutral report option as well as a collection of diverse gender options to improve the quality and quantity of our research.

In the past, assessment takers selected their gender at the beginning of the assessment, and that selection dictates what pronouns are used throughout the report. Now, anyone taking an assessment will be asked to select their pronoun choice instead, with 3 options: she/her, he/him, or they/them.

This new wording and new option reflect the understanding that people of all identities should be able to harness the potential revealed by our assessments. TTI SI’s motto is People First, and that means all people.

What’s the Next Step?

Keep an eye out for this new product feature on assessments! If you’re interested in joining the TTI SI network of resellers, get all of the information you need here. If you’d like to take a TTI SI assessment, contact us here.

In the meantime, if you’re trying to learn more about gender terminology and how to create and support your diverse workplace, connect with us for more resources to get started.

The new world of work is inclusive, diverse, and thrives on acceptance and putting people first. Is your business ready?
