QUOTE WORTH REMEMBERING
COURAGE is being scared to death... and saddling up anyway!
--John Wayne
PERSONAL NOTE FROM THE "CAPTAIN"
What does top talent look like?
I have spent most of my professional life understanding and developing people to
become better at what they do. But sad to say, our society has viewed its
workforce as a disposable commodity, only to be hired and fired at will based
merely on the bottom line. This is a sad situation and the consequences will be
felt for years to come.
What I have learned is many organizations overlook some of their best people. At
a glance, some of these individuals may not fit the traditional mold of what we
consider “top talent.” Maybe they don’t have the education, or may look unusual
or speak in a different way. Despite these superficial factors, this should not
limit us from seeing their true potential. Transforming them will take time,
patience and more importantly leadership. The investment will always pay for
itself a thousand fold.
When Susan Boyle first walked on stage on Britain’s Got Talent 2009, you knew
she was doomed. She did not fit the traditional mold of what people expected a
talented performer to look like. It was not until she sang “I’ve Dreamed a
Dream” did the real Susan Boyle emerge.
The rest is history.
Each of us struggle with some form of inferiority and insecurity. We all have a
deep desire to be successful, to reach our potential and to achieve our dreams.
As leaders, we have the responsibility to help each other achieve that goal. By
doing so we each become winners.
A leader is someone who sees people not for what they are, but for what they can
become.

THE ENORMOUS POWER OF MENTORING
Of those who have had an extremely helpful mentoring experience, 95 percent said
it motivated them to do their very best, 88 percent said it made them less
likely to leave their company, and 97 percent said it contributed to their
success at the company. Half the people in a study of 35 individuals who
participated in a mentoring program said the mentoring experience “changed their
life.”

NICE TO HAVE HAPPY CLIENTS
"Faced for the first time with a need to begin Management level learning for 50
managers, Nicholas & Company needed an easy-to-deploy, consistent, and
meaningful assessment. I chose Greg Smith's behavior surveys because of their
amazing accuracy, but more importantly, for Greg's strong knowledge on how to
understand this tool. With his piercing insight, and amazing ability to coach on
the results, I found we had discovered a gold mine so rich I have designed a
year’s worth of management training, customized to each manager, based on the
information contained in each person's assessment. If you are the captain of
your ship, Greg is the trusted navigator who will get you where you wish to go."
